3. How to post an image.

Unfortunately, you cannot paste an image directly into WordPress. Instead, if it is a picture on the web, you can insert it using the URL. If the image is on your computer, you need to upload it to WordPress and then select it. In either case, the process is very simple.

Inserting an image from the web by using its URL

a. Find the image online, right-click on it (or control + click on a Mac) and choose the option to “Copy Image URL.”

b. Place the cursor where you want the image to appear in your post.

c. Locate the “Add Media” button:

Add Media

d. On the page that appears, choose the “Insert from URL” option.

Insert from URL

In the interface that appears, paste the URL in the box where you see “http://” You will now see a thumbnail of your image. Choose a caption (if desired), an “alt” text (a brief description of the image for visually impaired users),. Also choose from the options for aligning the image (“Center” is least likely to produce unexpected results) and how big you want it to be (“Medium” is usually good). Click “Preview” and adjust these settings as necessary (clicking on the image will also give you the option to edit it later).

Inserting an image from your computer by uploading it to WordPress’s Media Gallery

a. Place the cursor where you want the image to appear in your post.

b. Locate the “Add Media” button:

Add Media

c. In the dialog box that appears, choose the “Upload Files” option to add the image to the blog’s Media Library. (If you uploaded it previously, it should still be there and you can select it via the “Media Library” option).

Upload Files

e. You will see a checkbox next to the image you just uploaded. To the right, you will see options for aligning the image (“Center” is least likely to produce unexpected results) and how big you want it to be (“Medium” is usually good). Click “Preview” and adjust these settings as necessary (clicking on the image will also give you the option to edit it later).

f. That’s it. For “official” instructions, go to: http://codex.wordpress.org/Inserting_Images_into_Posts_and_Pages

4. How to post a trailer or other YouTube (or Vimeo etc.) video.

WordPress makes adding images a little tricky, but adding videos is super-easy. Just insert the URL for the video on a separate line, with no additional formatting. In the page editor, you will just see the URL, but when you click “Preview,” the video will be there. This works provided the link is to a pre-approved “mainstream” video page, e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, Flickr, Imgur, Instagram etc. For a complete list and more details, go to: http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds

5. How to add hyperlinks to text.

It’s great to include links for your classmates to find the pages you visited.  This is also a way to cite outside sources.
Let’s say you find the fashion magazine Brigitte and want to post about it.
a. First highlight and copy the url: http://www.brigitte.de/
b. Then, in your blog post, highlight the text you want to link and click on the little “Link” icon at the top of the compose box. Paste your link there, and check the “open link in a new window/tab” option.
